At least five people Tuesday were killed when a tanker truck carrying a flammable liquid plunged off a highway overpass and exploded into a fire ball atop other vehicles on I-95 about six miles southwest of Baltimore, officials said.
Authorities at the scene closed parts of the east coast’s major north-south route for more than 12 hours after the incident which occurred around 3 p.m. As of early this morning, they were still searching the charred vehicles for additional victims.
According to state police officials, five vehicles were involved, three trucks and two passenger vehicles. Woods along the road were also set ablaze.
