• Knight nets higher earnings

    Truckload carrier Knight Transportation said its profits rose 20.6% for the fourth quarter of 2002 and 25% for the year because of increasing freight volume.     Truckload carrier Knight Transportation said its profits rose 20.6% for the fourth quarter of 2002 and 25% for the year because of increasing freight volume.

    Phoenix, AZ-based Knight said its net income jumped to $8.2 million on revenues of $76.4 million, up from net income of $6.8 million on revenues of $65.1 million for the same quarter in 2001.

    For the year, Knight said net income topped $27.9 million on revenues of $279.4 million, compared to net income of $22.4 million on revenues of $241.7 million in 2001.

    Knight added that its reported revenues do not reflect the inclusion of fuel surcharges.
