Refrigerated truckload carrier Marten Transport Ltd. said its first-quarter 2001 revenues climbed to $70 million, an increase of 16% from the $60.3 million it recorded in the first quarter last year.

First-quarter net income stayed flat, however, hovering at just over $1.6 million, almost the same as in first-quarter 2000. Operating income for the first quarter of 20001 hit over $4.1 million compared with $3.8 million in the same period last year.

The carrier added that productivity measures have made improvements in the level of equipment utilization, which, along with fuel surcharges, helped offset the higher cost of diesel fuel.

Marten operates a fleet of 1,891 tractors and 2,669 53-foot trailers.
