HydrogenSource LLC has unveiled an on-board fuel processing system that converts gasoline into the hydrogen gas needed to power fuel cells.

The South Windsor, CT-based manufacturer said the system can provide a bridge technology to bolster sales of fuel cell-powered cars and light trucks in the near term.

The 78-liter system is designed to fit under the chassis of a fuel cell-powered car so it can be operated on currently available fuels. It operates on unleaded California reformulated gasoline and generates enough hydrogen to operate a 50 kilowatts proton exchange membrane fuel cell.
