Transportation Logistics Int'l, Inc. (TLI) has announced the formation of a joint venture in South Africa with PicPack Logistics Pte., which will operate under the Translogistics banner. The company will be headquartered in Johannesburg with subsidiaries in Capetown, Port Elizabeth and Durban. PicPack Logistics' clients include most of the high value consumer manufacturers who export to South Africa and have entrusted their goods to PicPack because of its sophisticated security systems. Its 62 delivery vehicles are all satellite tracked against a pre-determined route with an armed rapid reaction force on constant stand-by in case of an attempted robbery.
Translogistics will not handle low end volume goods or accept any client who will not allow them to use their own systems and security techniques.
"We have the best record in South Africa and we are not prepared to jeopardize our pole position by short term expansion at the expense of inferior service quality," said Translogistics director Peter Walter. "We have managed to control our own cargo far better than any of our competitors."
Despite a very high level of high-jacking and general theft in South Africa, PicPack is listed in the high tech forum amongst the top ten in the world for the lowest shrinkage rate.
