Unocal Corp. today announced it is donating $100,000 to support emergency relief efforts following Tuesday's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. The company is donating $50,000 to the American Red Cross and $50,000 to the September 11th Fund, a special fund established by the United Way and the New York Community Trust to respond to the pressing needs of the victims and their families.
" The attacks on innocent American civilians and military personnel is a national tragedy," said Charles R. Williamson, Unocal’s CEO. "By these donations, we hope to assist immediate efforts now under way to help our fellow citizens whose lives have been disrupted by these heinous acts."
Williamson added that Unocal, which explores for and produces natural gas and crude oil, does not perceive any specific threats to its global operations or activities.
"We are maintaining a higher level of security alert and have completed an operational check to be sure that our employees and facilities are safe," Williamson said.
