Looks count

Cash and prizes for winning show trucks will be in excess of $25,000 at the 30th Anniversary Shell Rotella SuperRigs contest, to be held May 17-19 at the Speedco in Joplin, MO. What’s more, the event will feature fun and entertaining events for drivers, their families and the entire community, noted Shell, including a truck parade in downtown Joplin as well as concerts and fireworks.

Speedco will host this year’s SuperRigs event adjacent to its Joplin store, just off Route I-44 at Exit 11. Speedco will also be holding a grand re-opening celebration for the location, which was severely damaged by the devastating tornado that struck Joplin last year. According to Shell, its Rotella SuperRigs competition is the “premier truck-beauty contest for actively working trucks.” Truckers from across the U.S. and Canada will compete for cash and prizes and 12 winners will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2013 SuperRigs calendar.

Tire guy

Continental Tire the Americas has announced the winner of its naming contest for the mascot of its TrukFix truck-tire emergency roadservice program. Carolyn Laufer of Hartford, WIbased Laufer Trucking came up with the name “Axle” for the friendly looking mascot, whom Continental said “represents excellence in service, fast response times, and unparalleled communication with drivers.”

“We want to thank all of our customers for providing these creative and fun naming suggestions for our TrukFix mascot, and for visiting us on the Continental Tire Facebook page and websites,” said Clif Armstrong, director of truck tire marketing for the Americas. “Now we’ll be putting Axle to work as he assists us in providing the absolute best in emergency road service. The TrukFix program, with Axle’s help, is already proving to truck operators across North America how Continental can get them back on the road quickly and reliably in case of a breakdown.” As contest winner, Laufer received an iPad2 tablet computer.

Four other entrants who suggested the name will receive miniature Axle mascot dolls.
