Canadian Trucking Alliance launches Stop Illegal Trucking campaign to address enforcement gaps
Key takeaways
- CTA renews Stop Illegal Trucking push, urging stronger enforcement against Driver Inc. compliance gaps.
- Driver Inc. practices are linked to tax evasion, labor abuse, and safety risks across Canadian trucking networks.
- Campaign calls for stronger federal enforcement.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) recently launched the next phase of its Stop Illegal Trucking campaign in response to ongoing concerns around enforcement in the trucking industry. The company, which represents trucking industry stakeholders in Canada, is urging stronger action to address “Driver Inc.” practices and improve regulatory compliance across the sector.
The initiative encourages public engagement with policymakers and calls for expanded enforcement resources, increased oversight, and improved data sharing between jurisdictions. It also provides resources aimed at drivers affected by misclassification practices.
The campaign follows earlier efforts launched last fall and highlights continued concerns around labor practices and safety oversight. It also references federal commitments made in Budget 2025, including funding to address tax noncompliance and changes related to mandatory reporting requirements.
"We acknowledge and applaud the Government of Canada for taking a major first step by admitting the 'Driver Inc.' model is a threat to our economy and our safety and have committed to taking real action," Stephen Laskowski, president and CEO of the CTA, stated. "But the scale of this lawlessness is massive, and concerned citizens need to ensure Ottawa matches the level of enforcement required to remove the lawbreakers off our highways while also lending support and resources to provinces to do the same.”
