Truckers who currently park their rigs on the shoulder of Interstate 83 in Maryland to sleep or rest are being warned to make other parking arrangements. According to the Maryland State Police, they will begin ticketing trucks parked on the highway shoulder.
Police say they have implemented a zero-tolerance policy for trucks parked on the shoulder and will issue $60 tickets to violators. An increase in tractor-trailers parked on the side of the highway between Interstate 695 in Towson, MD, and the Pennsylvania state line have led to “extremely dangerous conditions,” according to a report in the Republic.
Truckers are urged to stop at rest areas, welcome centers or weigh stations instead. Electronic highway signs will be used to remind drivers about the increased enforcement.
