    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Wednesday afternoon will hold the first of two planned webinars to explain the new electronic logging devices (ELD) mandate.

    The presentation, “FMCSA ELD Rule and Implementation Plan,” discusses:

    • Major components of the ELD rule;
    • ELD implementation phases;
    • ELD technical specifications;
    • The harassment provisions; and
    • Record retention and general requirements of supporting documents defined by the ELD rule.

    However, the live webinar—scheduled for 2 pm Eastern—is closed to additional registrations. As an alternative, FMCSA has provided a link to a pre-recorded version for those who sign up. Anyone may subsequently dial in to the Question & Answer portion of the presentation, due to begin at 2:45 pm EST. Participants are also being encouraged to email their questions to [email protected] after viewing the video.

    A replay of the event will be posted later, FMCSA says.

    The second webinar, “ELD Phase I: Transition and Awareness,” is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 11.

    The presentation will provide information about the first phase of the ELD Rule Implementation Plan. During this phase, motor carriers have the option of using registered Electronic Logging Devices. The webinar will provide guidance to the motor carrier industry on how the ELD rule will be enforced during the Awareness and Transition phase at the roadside and during investigations.
