Thermo King has launched the Spectrum SB Multi-Temperature System with SmartReefer 2 (SR-2) controller for trailers.

The SR-2 controller has an enlarged display screen to allow customers to view cargo temperature and system set-point value. All temperature zones are viewed simultaneously, allowing for quick unit checks, Thermo King said. The controller also is able to display text messages along with codes and the option to choose among 22 languages.

The Spectrum SB Multi-Temperature trailer unit is capable of achieving temperature balance in up to three zones with various configurations. Remote evaporators make each temperature zone act like an individual trailer, Thermo King said.

It features the Spectrum S-3 Remote Evaporator, which is designed for high airflow and large capacity. It also has Smart Set, which offers precise temperature control.

The multi-temp system offers an extended maintenance interval, including a 12,000-hour coolant and high grade mineral oil to lengthen service life.

A hybrid version offering electric-to-diesel switching is also available.

Thermo King has also launched the Heat King, a freeze-protection solution for temperature-sensitive cargo.

It is a forced-air heating unit that uses a Tier-II diesel-powered engine that heats liquid coolant in a radiator coil. A blower then forces air across the coil and into the cargo area. The technology is similar to that used in a car’s heating system, Thermo King said.

The Heat King features a high-performance blower and a belt-driven alternator that automatically recharges the unit’s battery while the engine is running.
