Tire hikes spill over to trailers

Dec. 9, 2005
Credit rating firm Fitch Ratings has confirmed the mantra that the trucking industry will see healthy, but more modest growth in 2006 in its transportation outlook

Wabash National Corp. has announced it will pass on some of the price increases from its tire suppliers to customers starting February 1, 2006.

"Over the past year, Wabash National has been absorbing higher tire costs in lieu of an increase," said Bill Greubel, Wabash National president & CEO. "Unfortunately, we can no longer absorb these increases and are forced to pass a portion of these costs along. As future tire prices may moderate, we expect to be able to pass along reductions to our customers."

Wabash added that industry tire demand remains unprecedented and raw material price hikes continue to be dramatic.

In a separate announcement, the company stated it has appointed Richard J. Giromini to be president & COO and to be on its board of directors. Previously, Giromini had served as the company’s senior vp & COO.
