A Connecticut bill to crack down on intrastate motor carriers that have cancelled insurance was signed by Governor Jodi Rell on Monday. Under the bill, insurance companies must report cancellations of insurance policies to the DMV. Effective Jan. 1, 2006 commercial truck owners must file proof of meeting security requirements every six months.
Lawmakers pushed the bill when it was found after a July 29 dump truck crash, which killed four, that the truck owner did not have insurance.
