Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has awarded $35,000 in scholarships to three students to further their education

Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has awarded $35,000 in scholarships to three students to further their education. Nathan Wittman, Jennifer Kaiser and Gregory Herbert have each been given a one-year “Volvo Trucks Great Minds” scholarship.

“The Great Minds scholarships are a way for Volvo Trucks to give back to our customers and show how much we appreciate their support,” said Scott Kress, Volvo senior vp-sales & marketing. “It’s also a great way to reward achievement and hard work by the generation which will succeed us. Their future is our future, and the Volvo Trucks Great Minds scholarships will help secure that future for three families. On behalf of Volvo, I congratulate the three winning scholars.”

The scholarships are given to students entering or already enrolled in college with a parent or guardian who drives or owns a Volvo truck.

Wittman was awarded a $20,000 scholarship. He attends the University of Iowa and his father drives a Volvo VNL770 as an owner-operator for Barr-Nunn Transportation.

Kaiser was awarded $10,000. Her family runs an agricultural operation and her father drives a 1999 Volvo VN.

Herbert was awarded $5,000. He attends the Illinois Institute of technology. His father drives a Volvo VNM day cab for YRC and was the American Trucking Assns. 2005 National Truck Driving Grand Champion.

There were more than 300 applicants, who were evaluated on the basis of their academic performance, extracurricular activities, work experience and an essay on “What has trucking meant to my family?”
