Diesel prices down despite refinery troubles

Refinery outages due to Hurricane Ike have not affected diesel prices, and the average price for a gallon of diesel fuel fell four cents in the week of September 15th, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Crude oil traded as low as $90.83 per barrel today, according to CNNMoney.com, a drop of more than $50 per barrel since the all-time high of $147.27, set on July 11th. Diesel prices are down to an average of $4.02 a gallon, although gasoline prices skyrocketed more than 18 cents a gallon since last week.

The average diesel price is below $4.00 per gallon in only one region, the Midwest, where it averages $3.97. The most expensive region continues to be New England, where a gallon of diesel averages $4.25.
