The Freightliner Ride of Pride will make its seventh annual trip to Washington, DC this Memorial Day weekend to honor veterans, POWs and MIAs, led by a Freightliner Cascadia fully customized with American and Armed Forces symbols, the company said.

The 400-mile ride begins in North Carolina, where employees at the Cleveland, NC truck manufacturing plant volunteered to design the artwork and coordinate the 400-mile ride.

"This event brings great pride to everyone involved in it,” said Lamando Parker, an employee at the Cleveland plant returning to Iraq this summer. “The truck has high visibility on the road, which helps us honor our fallen heroes."

The trip to the capital began this morning with a 7:30 a.m. sendoff ceremony at the plant, and on Sunday the group will join a procession through the capital along with nearly a million motorcyclists participating in the Ride for Freedom, sponsored by national non-profit Rolling Thunder.

Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America have also announced they will equip trucks with special graphics, promoting the Wounded Warrior Project, also for the Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom

On May 24, a Mack Pinnacle Axle Forward and a Volvo VN 670 built at the New River Valley Plant in Dublin, VA will depart for the capital along with several hundred motorcyclists, including many plant employees.
