Douglas Weichman named NAFA president

Douglas Weichman, director of the fleet management division of Palm Beach County, FL since 1990, will officially take over as president of NAFA Fleet Management Assn. at the group’s Annual Business Meeting in Charlotte, NC, next month

Douglas Weichman, director of the fleet management division of Palm Beach County, FL since 1990, will officially take over as president of NAFA Fleet Management Assn. at the group’s Annual Business Meeting in Charlotte, NC, next month. Weichman will assume the office on April 9, taking over from Christopher D. Amos, CAFM. He will then officially kick off the 2011 Institute & Expo.

Weichman was the 2009 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year.

Under Weichman’s guidance, Palm Beach County has received several honors, including being named the FleetOwner Vocational Fleet of the Year in 2006. It has also been an ASE Blue Seal designated facility for the past nine years and has ranked in the top 20 of the 100 Best Fleets for the past three years.

Weichman himself was named the 2009 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year.

He is a FLAGFA member, a Governor of Florida appointee to Clean Cities, and an instructor at the University of Wisconsin Fleet Maintenance Management conference. In addition, he has taught courses at NTEA’s annual truck show and has published numerous articles for the industry.

Weichman’s NAFA experience includes involvement with the association’s educational programs and Fuels & Technology Advisory Council. His NAFA career highlights include the creation of the NAFA Green Fleet Award (since renamed the Sustainable Fleet Award); rejuvenating the student membership classification and starting the Student Advisory Task Force; serving as an instructor for NAFA’s Fleet Management Seminar; and participating in the development of several educational products.
