The expansion of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid truck market continues to grow with the announcement by parent Daimler Trucks that the vehicle is now for sale in Hong Kong. This marks the third market outside Japan in which the Canter Eco Hybrid are being sold. The vehicle is also sold in Ireland and Australia.

“Mitsubishi Fuso is pleased to bring the low emissions, high fuel efficiency Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid truck to Hong Kong,” said Dr. Albert Kirchmann, CEO & president of Mitsubisho Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. (MFTBC). “With its environmentally friendly performance, we believe this vehicle will benefit not only our customers but the public in general by making a contribution to CO2 reduction and by raising awareness of the possibilities of low emissions commercial vehicles.”

The Eco Hybrid is a light-duty truck based on the popular Fuso Canter, which debuted in Japan in July 2006. The hybrid features a parallel hybrid system that can reduce diesel consumption up to 30%, MFTBC said.

It is being marketed through Universal Cars Limited in Hong Kong.

The first orders for the vehicle outside Japan came from Ireland’s Electricity Supply Board in October 2009. The electric utility placed an order for 10 Fuso Canter Eco Hybrids. A second order, for 25 vehicles, arrived in February from Australia’s Star Track Express. Further expansion into new markets is planned in 2010, the MFTBC said.

The truck is ideal for utility along with parcel and freight delivery and the food and beverages industries.
