The number of school bus-related injuries treated in U.S. emergency departments between 2001 and 2003 averaged 17,000 annually, according to a study published in Pediatrics.

The number of school bus-related injuries treated in U.S. emergency departments between 2001 and 2003 averaged 17,000 annually, according to a study published in Pediatrics.

Of those injuries, 43% of them involved children 10 to 14 years old. Motor vehicle crashes accounted for 42.3% of all injuries, followed by injuries that occurred as the child was boarding, alighting or approaching the bus (23.8%).
