Continental’s wide-base single HTL1 trailer tire has become the fourth tire in the Continental lineup to be verified by SmartWay as a low-rolling resistance tire that can reduce NOx emissions and produce a fuel savings of 3% or greater, the tire maker has announced.

The tire features a 13/32 in. tread depth and a pyramid stone bumper/ejection system to reduce stone retention and casing penetrations. The HTL1 is for use on long-haul trailers.

The U.S. EPA Smartway Transport Partnership produces a list of verified technologies for tires that can achieve a 3% or greater fuel savings.

Other Continental tires that have achieved SmartWay verification are the HSL2 for steer positions, the HDL Eco Plus for drive position, and the HTL Eco Plus for the trailer position.
