A number of features have been added to Navistar’s vocational trucks to improve the driver experience in the waste collection field. The vehicles were shown at Waste Expo 2010 being held in Atlanta this week.

Driver productivity is improved with a stair-step entry/exit system for International’s DuraStar and WorkStar trucks. Add in the ability to spec both vehicles with stand-up, right-hand drive (SRD) configurations and improved cab ergonomics, and productivity is increased while fatigue decreases, noted the OEM.

The DuraStar includes a sloped hood, making SRD conversions work especially well, Navistar said, with plenty of forward and side-to-side visibility.

The WorkStar offers a cooling system mounted above the frame rail. The system protects the radiator in off-highway environments, but also allows for front-end power take-off (FEPTO) mounting without the need to put a hole in the radiator. The DuraStar’s colling package is developed from International’s PayStar 5900 SBA. It is mounted at the front of the frame rails for applications where a FEPTO is not required.

Both vehicles include standard wide-track front axles for greater wheel cut and a shorter turning radius.

The complete line of 2010 Navistar MaxxForce engines available include the mid-range diesels MaxxForce DT, MaxxForce 9 and MaxxForce 10, and the heavy-duty big bore options of the MaxxForce 11 and MaxxForce 13. The mid-range engines are available with up to 350 hp with horsepower rating improving to 475 with the heavy-duty engines.

All the engines meet 2010 EPA emissions requirements with the MaxxForce Advanced EGR emissions technology, an in-cylinder solution, said the OEM.
