Eaton adds new hose and tube options

A range of new hoses and tubes to handle a variety of fuels, oils and lubricants has been introduced by Eaton Corp. to address a wide range of needs, including making such products more environmentally friendly while adapting them to handle new fuel formulations, such as biodiesel.

The company said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently certified Eaton’s new EH049 ESP tubing and EH089 ESP hose for uses in a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, even for handling 100% biodiesel. The products feature multi-layer construction including a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDV) barrier, polyester reinforcement, and a black melt-processed rubber (MPR) cover to reduce leakage, said Mike Henning, Eaton senior product manager

“This EPA certification covers EPA-mandated evaporative emissions requirements for fuel systems taking effect in 2010, 2011, and 2012,” he added, noting that these new hose and tube models can handle a temperature range of minus 25°F to 150°F.

The company also has unveiled a new line of flexible rubber hose, GH100 ESP, designed for use with 2% to 100% biodiesel fuel blends in diesel engines for trucks, buses, agricultural vehicles and off-highway applications.

The new hose can also carry synthetic lubricants used in high-temperature truck transmission oil cooler applications, said Doris Showalter, senior product manager for transportation and air conditioning products.

“Biodiesel blends and synthetic lubricants are important aspects of the emerging sustainable energy system and they will be increasingly common in the future,” she noted. “Unfortunately, these fluids can quickly make ordinary hose products brittle and prone to cracking, and subject them to other forms of premature failure.”

Thus, Eaton’s GH100 hose features a hydrogenated nitrile rubber tube, wrapped with aramid/poly braid reinforcement with a polyester abrasion-resistant cover to counteract those issues, Showalter pointed out. It is qualified for underhood use with B2 to B20 up to 150°C and B100 up to 125°C and for transmission oil cooler applications using synthetic lubricants at peak temperatures up to 175°C.

Eaton GH100 is intended to fill the temperature-performance gap between conventional CPE (chlorinated polyethylene) tube hose products and premium PTFE (Teflon) hoses on these vehicles, she added. The product meets the requirements of common industry test methods including ASTM D380, 412, and 2240, and has also passed various specific customer/OE biodiesel and fuel test requirements, according to Eaton.
