The CSA Road Repair Kit from Grote Industries provides drivers with replacement lamps and supporting electrical parts to make onsite repairs to marker, turn-signal and other lamp failures identified during a pre-trip inspection. Packed in a small nylon duffle bag, this “lighting first aid kit” will help drivers avoid inspection violations that can impact their CSA records andhelp fleets avoid expensive service calls for failed lamps, according to Mark Blackford, Grote’s national fleet manager.

The kit includes 21 of Grote’s fastest-moving lamps, pig tail connectors, brackets and grommets, as well as 14-gauge butt connectors and wire ties. The storage bag, which measures 12 x 8 x 7 in., also has thumbnail pictures and all parts numbers printed on the side for quick inventory checks and replenishment.

Lighting is an important element in the CSA program, with failed lamps garnering four to six points for both driver and fleet violation records, Blackford pointed out. By comparison, a brake out of adjustment is a four-point violation under the CSA program.

In addition to avoiding CSA points, the kit can minimize road calls for lamp repairs, which on average can cost a fleet $250 and potentially result in customer service failures or delayed deliveries, Blackford said.

With a price under $100, Grote has begun taking orders for the CSA Repair Kit (part number 00990) and is scheduled to start shipping kits to distributors next week.
