US 12 over White Pass in Washington State will be completely closed for rock blasting, starting at 6 p.m. today and continuing through 7 a.m. tomorrow.
Westbound traffic will be stopped at the White Pass Summit and eastbound traffic will be stopped just east of Packwood, near the US 12 and SR 123 junction, according to the Washington State DOT (WSDOT).
The recommended detour is to take I-90 across the Cascade Mountains or SR 14 or I-84 through the Columbia River Gorge. Large commercial vehicles are prohibited from detouring through Mt. Rainier National Park.
WSDOT is stabilizing eleven slopes along a 25-mile corridor on US 12 near White Pass as part of a series of unstable slope remediation projects that will continue during the summers through 2013.
