Xata Corp. has certified the Motorola Admiral and the Motorola Atrix 2 for use with its Android-based EOBR solution, Xata Turnpike. Xata said it has certified 10 devices since launching the Android platform earlier this year.

“Xata remains committed to certifying the devices fleets want to use with our Xata Turnpike solution, so we jumped at the opportunity to support the Motorola Admiral. The Admiral is the first Android-powered smartphone with ‘push-to-talk’ functionality, utilizing the Sprint Direct Connect gold-standard network,” said Christian Schenk, vice president, product marketing, Xata. “We’re excited to be among the first to offer fleets and owner-operators the ability to instantly connect with drivers, dispatchers and customers.”

The Admiral smartphone uses a 1.2 gigahertz (GHz) processor and resists dust, shock, and vibration, according to Xata.

The Atrix 2 runs on the AT&T network and features a 1 GHz dual-core processor and 4G connectivity.

In addition to these and more than 20 other Blackberry, Intermec, HTC, Motorola and Samsung smartphones, five Android tablet computers have already been certified by Xata Turnpike, including the popular Dell Streak 7, the Galaxy 7 and 10.1, and the HTC View.

“As an industry leader, we’re working to certify all the types of mobile devices our customers want to use,” said Schenk, who said that Xata will soon be certifying two other devices: the Motorola Bionic and the Motorola Droid Razr.
