Increasing customer demand for two models has resulted in Peterbilt Motors Co. announcing a production run increase for two of its newest models.

The Model 587 and Model 382, both built at the company’s Denton, TX, facility, will see increased build rates, the company said.

The build rate for the Model 587 will double, thanks in part to an order for 1,000 of the trucks from U.S. Xpress, said Bill Jackson, general manager & Paccar vice president. The truck, available in both sleeper and day cab versions, was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2010.

The Model 587 comes standard with front air disc brakes and includes steering geometry that improves curb-to-curb maneuverability 12%, Peterbilt said. The cab interior has swivel seats, dual arm rests and a 30-in. walk-through space.

It is standard with a 2010 Paccar MX engine with 380-485 hp. Peterbilt’s new SmartNav system of mobile computing, telematics, navigation and truck monitoring comes standard as well.

The Model 382 is geared toward the short- and regional-haul markets. It is powered by a 2010 Cummins ISL9 engine ratings ranging from 345-380 hp. with a maximum 1,300 lbs.-ft. of torque.
