LA Ports like gas

As part of a $200-million plan to replace older, high-emissions diesel-powered trucks, the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will help fleets buy 5,000 natural-gas powered trucks over the next five years.

The plan will use both incentives and fees to encourage the switch to lower-emissions trucks, including those with diesels meeting the new 2007 emissions standards as well as alternative-fuel trucks and yard jockeys.

Overall, California has earmarked $1 billion to clean up emissions at its port operations by 50%.

California has the most advanced natural-gas fueling infrastructure in the country, according to NGVAmerica, a national organization promoting the use of natural gas vehicles.
