Truck and bus operators in New Jersey are being warned to restrict idling to three minutes or less or risk paying fines that will start at $200 per day, according to the New Jersey Dept. of Environmental Protection. Vehicles at the operator's place of business (i.e., the home terminal or base) are required to limit idling to less than 30 minutes. Vehicles not located at the operator's home base may idle for up to 15 minutes if the engine has been shut down for three or more hours prior to the idling period. Con-Way Transportation Services, a subsidiary of CNF, announced the formation of Con-Way Truckload (CTL). Operations are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2005. The new company will serve Con-Way's three regional LTL carriers: Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express and Con-Way Western Express by providing linehaul service on full loads of LTL shipments. Recruitment of management and operational staff in under way and is expected to create 450 new jobs.
