Wabco Holdings Inc. has opened a vehicle dynamics extension of its test track in Jeversen, Germany, allowing the company to safely and efficiently test its stability control systems on trucks, truck/trailer combinations and buses at high speeds.

Built at a cost of about EUR 3.2 million, the test track extension will offer ideal conditions for testing electronic stability control (ESC) systems, which will be mandated by the European Union for new heavy class commercial vehicles beginning in 2012, the company said.

“Ongoing vehicle testing throughout the product development process, from the first prototype to the start of series production, is indispensable for achieving excellent system quality,” said Christian Wiehen, Wabco chief technology officer. “In anticipation of regulatory requirements, our extended test facilities in Germany allow faster certification of new systems as part of our worldwide partnership with customers to validate their leading-edge products while shortening their time to market.”

According to the company, Wabco is the only commercial vehicle industry supplier with three exclusive test tracks: Rovaniemi, Finland; Chennai, India; and the Jeversen facility.
