TMC Fall Meeting set for Sept. 20-23

The Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) of American Trucking Associations will hold its 2010 Fall Meeting and TMCSuperTech2010 National Technician Skills Competition from Sept.20-23 at the Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, NC. The meeting theme for the Fall Meeting is: “Quality Control in Maintenance Operations.”

The Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) of American Trucking Associations will hold its 2010 Fall Meeting and TMCSuperTech2010 National Technician Skills Competition from Sept.20-23 at the Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, NC. The meeting theme for the Fall Meeting is: “Quality Control in Maintenance Operations.”

Full technical sessions are scheduled to include: "Cleaning of diesel exhaust particulate filters;” “Economic forecast for trucking,” and “How the new CSA 2010 rules impact fleet maintenance operations.” On Monday, Sept. 20, more than 100 task forces are also scheduled to continue work on the group’s Recommended Practices.

Planned study group mini-technical sessions include:

  • How to develop an effective electrical training program
  • Future regulations: Are you ready for EPA SmartWay, CARB and CSA 2010?
  • EGR cooler cleaning and maintenance
  • APUs, inverters and in-cab power management
  • New stopping distance regulations and their effect on vehicle
  • specifications — Part 2
  • Breaking up is hard to do: Options for trailer disposal
  • Is your carbon footprint about to step on you?
  • Sensor technology for predictive maintenance
  • Automatic transmission fluids: Why do they differ?
  • Cab entry and egress on specialty and vocational vehicles

TMC’s Fleet Operator’s Forum, Fleet Talk and Shop Talk sessions will again provide the opportunity for maintenance and equipment professionals to seek redress to equipment problems and exchange information related to equipment problems.

Additional educational opportunities for meeting attendees will be available at the Technician Training Fair, held in conjunction with TMCSuperTech2010. Six training sessions will be held on Monday and repeated on Wednesday to maximum training opportunities, the organization said. The training qualifies for National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation continuing education credits.

TMCSuperTech2010 contestants from across the country will attend the PTDC Training Fair, take their qualifying written exams and attend a reception in their honor on Monday, following by the day-long hands on Skills Challenge on Tuesday. The winners will be crowned as the nation’s top truck technicians at the TMCSuperTech2010 Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, which is open to both contestants and meeting attendees.
