Advanced powertrain engineering company Roush Performance Products has developed a Ford F-150 pickup powered by liquid propane injection (LPI), which it said will reduce emissions.

According to the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), propane’s emissions contain 62.7 kg CO2/million Btu when fuel is burned at a 99% combustion rate, a lower carbon content than gasoline, diesel, heavy fuel oil or ethanol.

The exhaust from a propane-fueled engine contains virtually no toxic compounds, vaporizes rapidly when released into the atmosphere, and has fewer contaminants and pollutants, the company said.

The Roush F-150 operates solely on propane with the same horsepower, torque and drivability of gasoline-powered F-150s, the company said. Roush is now taking orders for the vehicle, which is available in Regular Cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew styles with XL, XLT, STX, and FX4 trim and in three different bed lengths.
