Mack Trucks has announced it will increase staff at its Macungie Assembly Operations plant in Pennsylvania, beginning the first week of October.

The company will add approximately 125 workers. Some will be workers who are currently on layoff while the remainder will be filled by new hires. The company did not say how many would be new hires.

Mack, which said retail sales are up about 17% through July, said the ramp-up in production is due to increased order activity on the highway and refuse sides of the business. Just last month, the company announced an order for 325 trucks from Chrysler Group Transport.

The Macungie plant currently employs about 750. The October additions are on top of the recall of 75 workers in June.
