PeopleNet’s Konezny: IT integration “repurposes” data for fleets

DALLAS. Ron Konezny, CEO of PeopleNet contends the trend toward greater integration of solutions offered by IT companies serving trucking is well-established and not only benefits the firms so engaged, but also their truck fleet customers. Speaking to FleetOwner at this week’s TMW TransForum users’ meeting here, Konezny pointed out that the new CSA federal-safety-scoring rules will only accelerate this trend.

However, he noted that this is by no means a new development. Konezny said his firm completed its first integration with a software supplier—McLeod—back in 1999. “Now,” he said, ”the most compelling piece of information on the trend to us is that some 90% of our customers have a PeopleNet solution integrated with at least one [outside] back-office system supplier—and 50% or so have two or more integrations.” (See video of Konezny from the TMW meeting)

Konezny also told FleetOwner that IT integrations may involve hardware or software solutions, but the result always is “fleets getting increased value [for their IT investments] by the repurposing of [existing] data. As it stands now,” he added, “PeopleNet supports over 70 different [outside] products through integration” with other IT firms. “It used to be an IT customer was linked to one platform or another. But integration of solutions affords fleets customer much greater choice. “PeopleNet is not alone in doing this,” he added, “but we feel we provide integration at a deeper and broader level than our competitors.”

Earlier this week at the TMW meeting, PeopleNet had announced what it called an industry first, the integration of its Fleet Manager system with TMW’s TMT Fleet Maintenance software.
