A Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration official in New York has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for accepting bribes from trucking companies to postpone safety inspections.
James Wood, the former supervisor of the Buffalo office of the FMCSA, pleaded guilty in June to taking bribes from consultants working for Canadian trucking companies in exchange for postponing safety audits and ensuring that the companies passed inspections, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Wood also gave the consultants advance notice of which companies were up for safety audits, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Buffalo.
Wood was ordered to forfeit the $41,300 in bribes he’s believed to have accepted between 2008 and 2011.
