LAS VEGAS. The University of the Aftermarket announced here today at the 2012 Heavy Duty Dialogue meeting that it will offer what it calls the commercial vehicle industry’s first comprehensive leadership-development program. The intensive, weeklong program – dubbed “Heavy Duty Leadership” – is designed to foster the development of the next generation of heavy-duty parts distribution, manufacturing, service, association, and fleet-management professionals. The program is open to any early- to mid-career management-track professional in the commercial vehicle industry.
The first Heavy Duty Leadership session will take place July 8-13, 2012, on the Northwood University campus in Midland, MI.
“Leadership development and business succession planning are two major concerns for the commercial vehicle industry,” said University of the Aftermarket director Brian Cruickshank. “We will tackle these challenges by helping our participants hone their leadership skills and enhance their ability to think, plan and work more strategically.
“We expect the demand for this market-specific program to be very strong,” he added, “as it has been in other segments of the motor vehicle industry.”
The Heavy Duty Leadership program will be taught by industry leaders in collaboration with faculty of Northwood University’s DeVos Graduate School of Management and the University of the Aftermarket.
Areas of study will include:
- Global competition in heavy-duty technology
- Succession planning
- OEM dealers as customers and competitors
- Industry supply chain trends and challenges
- Team management and development
- Strategic management of internal assets
- Developing your unique business strategy in multi-channel markets
- Industry case studies
- Mentoring and leadership
The curriculum was described as featuring “an ideal blend of industry research and market analysis, discussion and debate of new challenges and competitive strategies, individual skills training in team management, leadership roles, strategic thinking and planning, and more.”
Program tuition ($2,995) includes all instruction, materials and meals. On-campus housing is available.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to contact the University of the Aftermarket as early as possible, as class size is limited. Participants will receive 3.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that can be applied toward industry education certificates.
