Two attorneys have published a book detailing how trucking companies can maintain non-union status. The book is being offered through the American Trucking Assns.’ Business Solutions division.

“Maintaining Non-Union Status: The Big Picture – And the Nuts and Bolts,” by LeClair Ryan attorneys Mark B. Goodwin, a former transportation executive, and Clinton S. Morse, provides a detailed look at company behaviors that give them the best chance to remain free of unions.

The book emphasizes positive employee relations and strict compliance with the law at every level of the company as the keys to maintaining long-term, non-union status. Trucking companies of all sizes that are either employee-based or those that use owner-operators can benefit from the tactics recommended by Goodwin and Morse, according to ATA.

The book is divided into two parts, each addressing a different audience. “The Guide for Owners and Senior Management” covers decisions and actions that must be made by company executives. Providing similar guidelines for supervisors at the local level, “The Handbook for Local Supervisors” is available separately and can be purchased in large quantities to distribute to supervisors.

Goodwin is also available to conduct a one-day workshop tailored to a company’s owners and senior management. The workshop includes hands-on training and in-depth workbooks.
