Indicative of the rising prominence of liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines in heavy-duty Class 8 trucks, Robert Transport has ordered 180 LNG-powered trucks from Peterbilt Motors Co.

The trucks, Model 386 and Model 367 Petes, are powered by the Westport HD system, which includes a GX 15-liter engine, Westport fuel injectors, LNG fuel tanks with integrated cryogenic fuel pumps, and related electrical components. The LNG engine has been approved by both the U.S. EPA and California’s Air Resources Board as meeting 2010 federal emissions levels.

“Operating natural gas trucks helps reduce one of our largest input costs and reduces our carbon footprint,” said Claude Robert, president & CEO of Boucherville, QC-based Robert Transport.

“This is a win-win for both the environment and our company,” Robert added. “Our goal is to find alternatives to diesel and to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 20 to 25%. Our partnership with Peterbilt and their natural-gas trucks are helping us work toward achieving that goal.”

Robert Transport provides logistic distribution solutions for dry and frozen food products.
