More than $909 billion in goods crossed the U.S. border in trade with Canada and Mexico in 2007, 4.9% higher than the previous record set a year earlier, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
According to BTS, merchandise to and from Canada and Mexico has risen in value by more than $305 billion, or 50.6%, since 2002, as nearly 606 tons of freight was transported via truck, rail, air, sea and pipelines in 2007.
Trucks carried 61% of the freight measured by value, representing $555 billion in 2007, with freight shipments of approximately $325 billion with Canada and $230 billion with Mexico, BTS said.
