Third party logistics (3PL) company Transplace has tapped George Abernathy to be president of its Transplace Logistics division, comprised of the firm’s 3PL, truck brokerage and consulting business units.

The move splits off that responsibility from Tom Sanderson, who will continue in his role as CEO and maintain direct responsibility for Transplace’s ocean and air forwarding as well as its Mexico business units. The company added that this change allows Sanderson to focus on the company’s long-term goals and strategic acquisitions.

Abernathy, who joined Transplace in 2004 and most recently served as executive vp and COO, is a 25-year veteran of the transportation industry, with stints at companies such as J.B. Hunt Transport, Sabre, North American Van Lines and Logistics.com during his career.
