The Louisiana Dept. of Transportation and Development has upgraded its 511 Traveler Information Service to enable drivers with smartphones and similar devices to access a web-based system for information about road closures, weather conditions and construction activities, according to the Times-Picayune.

Agency spokeswoman Amber Leach said the 511 site can be accessed at www.511la.org and is designed for “small screens and lower band-width availability on web-enabled phones.” Data includes around the-clock, real-time traffic and road conditions, updates and access to traffic cameras in major areas of the state.

Drivers can also dial 511 to receive road condition updates while traveling in Louisiana. Out-of-state callers can access the system by dialing 1-888-ROAD-511.
