Paccar has decided Columbus, MS will be the location of its new $400 million engine facility and technology center.
Construction on the 400,000-sq.-ft. facility will begin in mid-2007 and will be completed in 2009, the OEM said. The new facility will manufacture 12.9L and 9.2L diesel engines for Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF vehicles. It will also complement Paccar’s facility in the Netherlands, Paccar said.
“The Columbus site provides superb proximity to our dealers, customers and strategic supply partners,” said Mark Pigott, Paccar chairman & CEO.
Construction of the plant is a cornerstone of Paccar’s initiative to vertically integrate its engines in the North American market. The 12.9L and 9.2L engines will be “of a similar displacement” as engines being offered in DAF trucks overseas, the company said.
