Several key changes have been implemented by the Trustees for this year's Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA) scholarship application process, which is now open and will remain so until Friday, June 12, 2009.
The program is open to college students in any class and the requirement of a 3.3 GPA has been removed to take into consideration "life experiences," the organization said. During judging, students studying for degrees in transportation and business will no longer receive extra points over students pursuing degrees in other fields.
"Because the economy is so bad, a lot of people are going back to school, so we're expecting to be flooded with applications this year," said Don Orr, past Scholarship Fund chairman, who will be staying on as a trustee. "We felt it was time to revisit some of our criteria to make the program even more beneficial to the trucking industry and its people."
The TCA has been offering scholarships through its Scholarship Fund since 1973. Visit the TCA website for more scholarship information and to download the official rules and an application.
