Mary Peters, who held the top spot at the Federal Highway Administration from 2001 to 2005, has been nominated by President Bush to succeed Norman Mineta as Secretary of Transportation.
Before coming to Washington, Peters worked for the Arizona Dept. of Transportation for more than 15 years, and was appointed director in 1998.
More recently, she has worked in the private sector as sr. vp at HDR, Inc., an engineering consulting firm. Earlier this year Peters was appointed to the National Surface Transportation Policy and Study Commission, where she serves as co-vice chairman.
