Daylight speeds up deliveries

Expedited LTL provider Daylight Transport is boosting its transit times on long haul routes, in part via a multi-million dollar investment in operations systems.

The carrier said it now offers 3-day service on weekdays between Southern California and Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. Monday pick-ups are delivered by Thursday the same week, and Tuesday pickups get there by Friday, Daylight added, with many coast-to-coast lanes delivering Friday shipments by Monday.

Daylight Transport CEO Richard Breen said the key to this transit time improvement is the use of two-man sleeper teams on long haul runs. ”It costs us more to put two-man sleeper teams on long haul lanes, but we do it,” he noted.

Breen added that one critical ingredient to making two-man teams cost efficient is information technology, which is why Daylight is investing in upgrades to handle logistics management requirements more quickly and efficiently.

“We’re spending millions on IT, because … our systems are one of the things that make it possible for us to customize services, be more flexible, and maintain low rates,” he explained.
