Asheville, NC-based Brake Sentry, LLC is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its product launch, according to company founder, Daniel Judson. Brake Sentry manufactures and distributes the BrakeSentry kit, which it calls a “simple and innovative brake stroke monitoring device that improves vehicle safety and significantly reduces maintenance costs. “

A 30-year industry veteran who understands maintenance practices, Judson developed the BrakeSentry to provide drivers and technicians with a quick and effective means to visually inspect and identify any brake out-of-adjustment conditions for prompt correction before they are cited at a roadside inspection or become a contributing factor in a costly accident, noted the company.

Under the new CSA2010 federal safety- scoring rules, brake-out-of-adjustment violations will carry a “4” severity rating based on crash-related risk, making it one of the top 10 equipment violations affecting a fleet’s safety score, Brake Sentry pointed out. As drivers’ pre-trip inspections will become especially critical, fleets equipped with effective visual brake stroke indicators will have an important advantage in reducing violations that directly affect their safety score.

In addition to improving safety and compliance, the use of BrakeSentry reduces vehicle preventive maintenance time and cost, said the company. “On average, it takes about 25 minutes to inspect brake stroke adjustment on a vehicle without BrakeSentry,” Judson noted. “With BrakeSentry, it takes less than five minutes, so not only is your fleet safer, you’re also saving money.”
