The Missouri Dept. of Transportation is seeking input from truckers about parking needs along I-70 through the state. The state recently received $1 million in federal grants to add rest stops or make additional parking spots available for truck drivers in existing rest stops along I-70.

Currently, Missouri has 207 parking spots for trucks along the Interstate in five rest stops.

The survey asks truckers where they think the additional truck parking would be most beneficial. Truckers must complete the survey by Friday, Dec. 16. To access the survey go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LBGPQYW.

“The struggle to find safe, convenient places to park is a daily challenge, and one that’s become even more daunting for truckers in recent years,” Todd Spencer. executive vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Assn. told Land Line magazine. “We are pleased that Missouri officials and the Missouri Dept. of Transportation are pursuing all available avenues to help address this problem.”

Carson Garrett, a truck driver interviewed by KOMU News, said I-70 is one of the worst highways for rest stops. “The rest stops are usually filled up and you go into truck stops and you can’t find a place to park,” Garrett said. “You’re tired and it’s pretty dangerous.”
