TCA offers webinar on recruiting veterans

Feb. 16, 2012

The pullout of troops from Afghanistan, the end of the war  in Iraq, and the high unemployment rate among veterans provide carriers with an  opportunity to find qualified drivers and diesel technicians, according to the Truckload Carriers Assn.

The association is sponsoring a webinar Feb. 23 from noon to  1:30 pm ET to discuss the barriers to recruiting current and ex-military personnel,  and possible solutions.

Participants will also gain tips and ideas for developing a  military recruiting program. Topics of the webinar will include:

  • Working with military organizations and how to partner  with them.

  • Best practices in areas such as transitioning military  personnel to civilian employment.

  • Verifying, qualifying, and quantifying military experience  for civilian employment.

  • The tools and techniques available to help you  successfully recruit from the military.

Scheduled speakers for the webinar are Jeffrey Bessent, director  of safety, deBoer Transportation, Inc.; David “Duke” Ellington, personnel supervisor,  Con-way Freight; Harold T. Riggins, III, transition services manager, Army  Career and Alumni Program and Joe C. Thomas, Contractor, IIF Data Solutions, program  support technician, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Owners; CEOs; recruiters; human resources and recruiting  directors, fleet, safety, and maintenance managers are encouraged to  participate. The interactive program will provide opportunities for participants  to ask questions.

Registration for TCA members is $169 or $248 for access to  the live event and a recorded program for one year.  Registration for non-members is $219 or $328 for  access to the live event and a recorded program for one year.
