Delays expected as Colorado Highway 40 resurfacing project begins

June 22, 2012

The Colorado Dept. of Transportation has started a highway resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 40 near Hayden between mile markers 108 and 114. The project will overlap a Highway 40 rockfall mitigation project that runs from MM 113 through MM 120 in Mount Harris Canyon, according to a CDOT press release.

Drivers can expect to see crews working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in both construction zones Mondays through Fridays. There will be some work on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pilot cars will guide alternating lanes of traffic through the work zone. Wait times of up to 20 minutes could occur during construction hours, and motorists are asked to plan for delays, CDOT warns.

Since the resurfacing and rockfall mitigation projects are directly adjacent to each other and also directly impact one another, CDOT will be providing updates for both projects together at www.coloradodot.info/projects/MtHarrisCanyon.

During both resurfacing construction and ongoing rockfall mitigation operations, CDOT reminds motorists to obey all road signs and flaggers, and to drive “slow for the cone zone.”
