Women In Trucking welcomes DTNA/Freightliner as Gold Level Partner

July 3, 2012

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) and Freightliner Trucks have jointly joined the Women In Trucking (WIT) Assn. as a Gold Level Partner. As a long-time corporate member, DTNA and Freightliner are increasing their support to the highest level of commitment to the organization.

“Daimler Trucks North America encourages workplace diversity and we are seeing more and more women in leadership positions within our industry,” said Kary Schaefer, chief engineer Mechatronics, DTNA. “By partnering with Women In Trucking, DTNA and Freightliner are showing our support for all of the women who are helping change the face of the trucking business.”

WIT has experienced considerable growth in its five-year existence and represents nearly 2,000 members in the United States, Canada, England, and Australia. Freightliner has been a sponsor of the “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel,” where female professional drivers have been recognized for their contributions to the industry.

“A Gold Level Partnership shows DTNA and Freightliner’s support for our mission to create a better environment for women (and men) who pursue a career in the trucking industry,” said Ellen Voie, WIT’s president/CEO. “Their long-time support as a member and an event sponsor has shown their commitment in the past, but they are now a top level contributor with greater influence in the future of the association.”

Women In Trucking was established to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women in the industry.

Membership is not limited to women, as 16% of its members are men who support the mission. Women In Trucking is supported by its members and the generous support of Gold Level Partners: Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, LLC, Daimler Trucks North America, Frito-Lay North America, Great Dane Trailers, Hyundai Translead, and Walmart.
