The Iowa 80 Trucking Museum recently hosted a 100th Birthday Party for its 1912 Saurer and 1912 Mack Jr. model (pictured) trucks. “It’s very fitting that we are celebrating both the Saurer and Mack Jr. trucks, since both nameplates were forerunners to the Mack trucks we see on the road today,” said Dave Meier, museum curator, during the festivities.
The Mack Jr. model was the first truck Mack built that had the steering on the left side. Prior to that, all trucks had the steering wheel on the right—the same side from which horses were driven.
